I think everyone has come across a time when they were watching their favorite show only to be interrupted by a commercial. How many times can we think of, however, that a commercial was an As Seen on TV advertisement. So what's the big deal about those, alot of people wonder.
As Seen on TV workers, like Billy Maize, actually do a lot more then just promoting a product. After seeing an episode of "Pitchmen", I was surprised to find out that the employees not only promote a product in a television commercial, but also help choose the products, interview hopeful product owners, decide the price and selling points, design the ads, work with the CEO of the advertising company, and basically put in a lot more hard work then you and I know of!
As Seen on TV products not only get picked out by the best in the company, but go through rigorous training and tests before a widescale production and marketing comes into play. Testing may start off by an employee randomly testing the product out with civilians out on the street and having them rate the product. Employees in charge of testing usually can tell pretty quickly if a product is going to be a hit or not.
After some randomized testing, the As Seen on TV companies may move on to a localized marketing effort, where they only have ads on television of a certain product being tested, in a specifically chosen location. If results prove to be promising, marketing and production on a large-scale is done.
As you can see, there is much more work then meets the eye when it comes to As Seen on TV products and making it from the drawing boards into our cars, living rooms, kitchens, etc. These marketers and inventors work hard for their money. Some of the products sold as As Seen on TV products actually are better then most of the competing items and are sold for much less money. I guess you need to just do your research and find out which ones are the best.
